Forest Ecosystems

Florida's geography and geology mean that many different plants grow in a wide variety of climatic conditions.  We have subtropical areas that rarely freeze, coastal regions that recover quickly from hurricanes, and pine forests that adapt to fire.  Although scientists have identified over 20 different ecosystems in Florida, we have selected 8 common forest ecosystems for this 4-H program.  Learn about the soil, climate, and other features that make each of these ecosystems unique, and try to visit those located near you.
