 Identifying Characteristics
Size/Form:
A large fern with erect, stout stems and fleshy roots, reaches a height of 7' to 8' in height. Grows in clumps.
Leaves:
Stiff, leathery, and lance-shaped pinnate leaves. Alternate pinnae between 40 to 60 per leaf. Upper surface is a dark green with a paler green on the underside. Leaves grow arching or vertical from the base.
Spores:
Spores are found on the underside of the leaves. Spores are reddish-brown and are feltlike in appearance.

Habitat:
Golden leather fern is sun tolerant. Found in coastal hammocks and mangrove swamps.
