Shortleaf Pine is a large evergreen tree that reaches heights of 70 to 100'. It has a long, clear unbuttressed bole, and ascending limbs, with a small, pyramidal crown.
Leaves:
The leaves are needle-like, 2 to 5" long, and borne in fascicles of three. They are flexible, slender, and green to yellow-green in color.

Shortleaf pine is shade intolerant and is found on a wide variety of sites from rocky ridges to heavy clays to sandy loams. It is often found in association with loblolly pine (Pinus taeda).
