| The Florida panther's range once extended across the southern United States from Florida to Texas, as far north as Arkansas, Tennessee, and South Carolina. Only 30-50 panthers live in Florida today and can only be found in the southwestern part of the state, in the Big Cypress-Everglades area. The biggest threat to the Florida panther has been loss of habitat. Panthers require large tracts of land with plentiful amounts of prey. This endangered species is designated as Florida's state mammal. | ||
