Fazenda Sete is a ranch located near the city
of Paragominas. A large patch of forest exists on this property, which
provides a place for research on the effects of conventional and reduced
impact logging. As a class we compared the forest impacts created by these
methods of wood harvesting.

Reduced Impact Logging (RIL) plot. Notice the uniformity of the canopy and the abundance of regenerating trees.

Visiting a forest often entails crossing
pastures to access any remaining wooded areas. Here, the class walks toward the forest patch to see the experimental plots. |
