Master Tree Farmer Mini-series:
Preparing for the Next Owner
February 20, 27 and March 6, 2007; 7-10 PM ET at participating locations
If you own land you probably have a strong connection to it and a desire to leave your land in a healthy, productive condition for the future. You've worked hard planning for the management of your property, maintaining wildlife openings, burning, plowing fire lines and planting trees that will likely outlive you. Few people dedicate themselves to growing something with a longer life cycle than their own.
This 3-session shortcourse, hosted by Clemson University and broadcast via satellite and Internet across the South, will focus on the legal and emotional challenges associated with preparing your land for the next generation. Agenda topics will include:
- Understanding heir property and having a clear title
- Basics on how real estate passes
- Basic estate planning with a focus on forestland options
- Intergenerational transfer strategies
- Conservation easements
- Charitable giving
- Generation skipping options
- Shared ownerships and family limited partnerships and property transfer issues
Experts in these fields from around the country will present the latest information on these topics and more. They will also be available via 1-800 phone lines and the Internet to answer questions that landowners, farmers, ranchers, natural resource professionals, tax experts, financial planners, accountants and others have about these issues.
In Florida this program is a collaborative effort by UF-IFAS Extension, Florida Division of Forestry, Florida Forestry Association and others. New information about the program will be posted here as it becomes available. Questions can be directed to Chris Demers, 352-846-2375, cdemers@ufl.edu.
