ACMF Use Policy
The Austin Cary Memorial
Forest (ACMF) is used for the purposes of academic teaching, research,
extension education and demonstration.
1. Coordination of research
and other activities on the ACMF, recommendation of new projects
and continuation of existing projects is vested in the ACMF Management
Committee, which reviews proposals for approval. When appropriate,
the Committee recommends to the Director of the School of Forest
Resources and Conservation actions that require the Director’s
approval.
2. Written proposals
for new teaching activities and research or demonstration projects
must be submitted at least one month before the proposed project
starting date. Proposal format is noted below.
3. Proposal review may
involve people other than ACMF Management Committee members.
4. All project participants
are expected to inform the Forester or the ACMF staff when they
are ready to begin fieldwork.
5. Copies of all reports
from work done on the ACMF are to be provided to the Forester and/or
the ACMF Management Committee. The project leader shall submit a
final report for each completed project to the Committee. Copies
of any resulting publications are requested for the ACMF research
file.
6. Long-term projects
that do not have annual activities and reviews will be reviewed
every five years. For continuing projects, the review will include
a list of accomplishments and benefits accrued from past work and
anticipated as a result of continued work.
7. Funding for maintaining
or dismantling of research projects by ACMF personnel must be included
in project budgets and made available to ACMF operations. Guidelines
for such support may be obtained from the Forester. UF units and
project leaders that do not clean up project sites will not be allowed
to use the ACMF for other purposes until cleanup is completed.
8. Fuels and supplies
from ACMF that are used by research projects will be replaced by
those projects.
