Oak Diseases in Florida oak disease

Oak trees are an integral part of Florida’s natural and urban forests. To many people, live oaks draped in Spanish moss evoke images of stability and tranquility. Indeed, we value oak trees for many aesthetic, ecological and economical reasons. However, in recent years, oaks in Florida have suffered from a wide range of health issues, sometimes caused by pathogens and more often caused or exacerbated by human activity. The Forest Pathology Laboratory at UF is working with the Division of Forestry to identify the common causes of oak mortality in the state of Florida and provide management recommendations.
