Emergencies
For this document the definitions of emergency, hazard and risk
are:

that requires immediate action.
•
Hazard – a potentially damaging physical event, phenomenon
or human activity that may cause the loss of life or injury, property
damage.
•
Risk – The combination of the frequency, or probability, of
occurrence and the consequence of a specified hazardous event.
In the event
of an emergency at the SFRC involving SFRC Faculty, Staff, Students,
or facilities the following action steps should be undertaken:
•
Assess the situation and identify what factors are at risk (i.e.
human health, environment or facilities)
• Reduce the risk through actions that mitigate or reduce
the risk without involving personal risk
• In the event of an emergency on Campus dial 392-1111. Contact
the Director of the SFRC, Dr. Timothy White (352-846-0850) to report
all emergencies and accidents and follow up with the Operations

Safety
Plan
The objective of this safety plan is to systematically identify,
evaluate and mitigate general workplace hazards, specific job hazards,
and potential hazards that may arise from foreseeable conditions
encountered by SFRC Faculty, Staff and Students. This safety plan
is intended as a guide and does not supersede OSHA regulations which
should be adhered to at all times.
The SFRC
is committed to providing a safe working environment for all SFRC
Faculty, Staff and Students, and it is ultimately the responsibility
of each SFRC employee to seek to prevent injuries, illnesses and
property damage through the identification and mitigation of hazards
and risks in their workplaces. To meet this objective the Director,
at his discretion, shall appoint a safety committee which provides
the means for SFRC personnel to develop and/or express their own
commitment to safety and health protection.
This committee
will:
•
Conduct regular worksite analysis in order to identify existing
hazards/risks in addition to anticipation of potential future hazards/risks.
• In a timely manner make suggestions to the SFRC Director
for the elimination of identified hazards or where not feasible
to control the risks associated with such hazards.
• Coordinate general safety and health training applicable
to all Faculty, Staff and Students as appropriate. Specific training
for particular job, lab and equipment related tasks shall remain
with either the facilities manager or supervising faculty as appropriate.
