Professional Development Series

The Professional Development Series consists of unique online modules that educators can utilize to help broaden their expertise in particular topics related to PLT. Modules have been developed to provide basic, as well as Florida specific, information.

Designed to be interactive and self-guided experiences, these modules will increase awareness and understanding, as well as help educators build the capacity needed to share this knowledge.

Tree Products Module

This has been designed as a self-guided experience that can help you increase your awareness of products made using trees, your understanding of how these products are made, and your awareness of Florida’s forest product industries. Module users will also build on their knowledge base by completing an accompanying web quest.

Leaf Shape Identification Module

This has been designed to provide an introduction to leaf shape identification. Module users will learn basic botanical terminology and common traits used to describe leaves. Module requires users to examine leaves and record their information on an accompanying worksheet.

Dichotomous Keys Module

This module has been designed as an interactive experience that can help you expand your expertise about tools used to identify organisms. Module users will skillfully use a dichotomous key to identify items, learn the process behind the development of a dichotomous key, and create their own dichotomous key using a local organism.

Invasive Exotic Species Module

This has been designed to increase your knowledge of invasive exotic species. Modules users will learn terminology associated with exotic species, environmental and economic impacts, and how they can deal with invasive exotic species in their community. Users will also build on their knowledge base by completing an accompanying worksheet.

Woody Biomass Module

This module has been designed to increase your understanding of woody biomass and the advantages and disadvantages of its use. To meet these objectives users will review information adapted from the UF/IFAS Wood to Energy Biomass Ambassador Guide, as well as explore relevant websites. Module users will build on their knowledge base by completing an accompanying web quest.
