PLT School Program

The PLT School Program helps individual schools establish an ongoing commitment to environmental education through regular use of PLT activities. In addition to attending an educator workshop, the school selects a PLT School Coordinator that acts as a liaison between the teaching faculty and the PLT state coordinator.

Rather than an isolated training event, the Florida PLT Schools program provides a way for teachers to integrate the environment into the classroom and connect with other teachers in the PLT Learning community. The program also helps network the school with sponsors from a variety of public and private organizations creating partnerships and a sense of community.

The PLT School Program is a special award and signifies that

  • at least fifty percent of the teaching faculty from an elementary school or fifty percent of the teaching faculty at grade or subject level in a middle or high school have participated in a PLT educator workshop
  • the school has chosen either one week each year as PLT Week or the teachers incorporate at least 5 activities from PLT into their lesson plans throughout the year
  • the school has selected a PLT Coordinator from the faculty.

Principals, PLT-trained educators or facilitators, or Steering Committee members can nominate schools at any time during the year using the PLT School Application. You will need Adobe Acrobat Reader to view the application form. If you don't have Acrobat Reader loaded, you can download it for *free*.

Approved PLT Schools receive:

  • a colorful PLT School banner
  • an engraved plaque
  • a Tree Trunk of teaching aids
  • opportunity to participate in the biannual PLT Schools Conference is held to provide an opportunity for teams of teachers to share their ideas and learn more about forests and environmental education.
