A.D. Harris High in Panama City
PLT School Coordinator: Leon Mays
During A.D. Harris’s PLT Woods Week, teachers were encouraged during to do a lesson concerning forest education and conservation. Teachers incorporate PLT activities into a variety of classes including Life Management, Counseling, Math, Health, Science, and Social Studies. Interested students took a field trip to the Bear Creek Feline Center to observe wildlife in a natural setting for the Woods, Weather and Wildlife Earth Day Celebration.
Led by Media Specialist Summer Zephyr, the Science Department has developed a four-part project named “Go Native”. The four parts include a Victory Garden (spotlight endangered species), an All Natural Make-over (service-learning project at demonstration houses), Plant Fusion (outreach education to members of the community through presentations and handouts), and Wetlands: The Secret Garden (demonstration garden). The overall purpose is to show practical ways to incorporate native plant species into home landscapes.
Contact A.D. Harris High for additional information about their programs.
