UF/SAF Events
The UF student chapter of SAF participates in several SAF events throughout the year. This is a great way to network with professionals, stay up to date on current issues in forestry and natural resources, and develop strong bonds with classmates and faculty.
Southeastern Society of American Foresters (SESAF) Annual Meeting (September)
This event is rotationally located in Alabama, Florida, and Georgia bringing together members of the regional SAF chapter. A theme is chosen each year in response to current issues and trends in forestry. This meeting provides oppurtunites to network with professionals and learn about career oppurtunities in our area.
Society of American Foresters National Convention (October)
The SAF National Convention is located throughout North America. The annual convention provides oppurtunites for memebers to meet and connect with other students and professionals throughout the country.
Our chapter participates in the student "Quiz Bowl", which is a friendly competition between attending SAF student chapters. Questions test knowledge in forestry and natural resources.
The National Student Assembly (NSA) also occurs during the National Convention. This is the official business meeting of SAF's student members. Student members discuss issues and concerns related to SAF and the profession.
UF SAF and SFRC Student Council Service Project (December)
Each year around the holidays, the School of Forest Resources and Conservation student organizations participate in a service project to benefit our local community. In the past we have collected toys for "Toys for Tots", collected canned goods for a food drive, and adopted a family in need to provide holiday gifts and desired items.
FL SAF/SFRC Annual Spring Symposium (April/May)
The Florida Chapter and School of Forest Resource and Conservation hold an annual two day symposium in Gainesville, FL. The highlight of the symposium is the keynote speaker, which is a part of the John Gray Lecture series developed by the chapter and SFRC.
Our chapter participates by volunteering at the registration booth, assisting with media for speakers, and hosting a dinner for attendees at the Austin Cary Memorial Forest.
